Organized Religion Uses Faith as a Tool to Quash Critical Thinking

Organized Religion
critical thinking

Most organized religion quashes free, critical thinking by twisting the concept of faith and using it as a tool, telling its members to “stop thinking and just believe”

Critical thinking is largely absent

from organized religion as an institution. Although religion contains some truth and does help some people, overall is not a force for good on this planet. One of the ways in which it hinders the evolution of humanity is by encouraging people to stop seeking truth, to stop asking questions and to stop challenging authority. It invokes the concept of “faith” and twists it, using it as a tool to quash critical thinking.

Religion has a history of bitterly opposing logical and rational thought, as can be seen by how often it has denied and condemned scientific theories – which later became scientific facts. There were at least three famous people in history – Giordano Bruno, Copernicus and Galileo – who presented the heliocentric model of the Solar System to the Catholic Church, and were either denounced, imprisoned or burned at the stake for their theories, for simply presenting an alternative view of reality arrived through critical thinking.

Organized Religion Abandons Reason and Logic, Because It Would Expose Its Hypocrisy and Inconsistencies

The modern Catholic Church and other institutions of organized religion, despite appearances, have not changed much since that time. Their thinking is still dominated by narrow-minded doctrine and dogma and the idea that “this way is the only way”. You’re either a believer, or a shunned heretic or infidel doomed to damnation. Religious leaders like to use the idea of faith to trick people. There is nothing wrong with faith in and of itself. In fact, in many instances it is a virtue, because in shows trust in Life and the Universe at large. However, when faith is used as a tool to stop people from going down a certain line of thought or to quash critical thinking in general – because it would expose religious hypocrisy – then it becomes detrimental.

Critical Thinking is Needed to Reach Our Highest Potential

Einstein said that imagination was more important than knowledge. If we are to truly understand Who We Are and why we are here, we need to keep asking questions, challenging the status quo and demanding full answers that make sense. If we stop this and complacently accept the false idea that “there are just some things humans aren’t supposed to know”, we will never reach our full potential or embrace the highest truth. Who said we aren’t supposed to know everything? If we are truly God’s children and made in His/Her image, then we need to strive to reach our potential. God is omniscient; let us too strive to be all-knowing – or at least evolve in the process. And let us not tolerate the blind appeal to faith by the Vatican or any other organized religion to stop our earnest desire to know the truth.
